Quantitative Fit
Committed to providing quality training & safety services to individuals and organizations.
Critical Safety
Quantitative fit testing uses specialized equipment to measure how well a tight-fitting respirator seals to an individual’s face. The equipment measures leakage around the respirator and provides a numerical fit factor, giving an objective indication of whether the respirator provides an adequate seal.
Protection
A respirator can only provide proper protection when it fits correctly and maintains a secure seal around the wearer’s face. Quantitative testing helps identify leaks that may not be noticeable to the wearer and confirms that the selected respirator is appropriate for their individual face shape and size.
Exact Scores
Quantitative testing uses electronic equipment to provide a numerical measurement of respirator fit, rather than relying on the wearer’s senses. Qualitative testing uses a sweet or bitter test substance and provides a simple pass-or-fail result based on whether the wearer can detect it.
Quantitive Fit Testing
How It Works
No Guessing
Electronic testing equipment measures respirator fit objectively instead of relying on the wearer’s ability to taste or smell a test substance.
Movement Testing
The wearer completes a series of breathing, talking and movement exercises to ensure the respirator maintains its seal during normal activity.
Air Sampling
A small probe is connected to the respirator to compare particles in the surrounding air with those detected inside the mask.
Passing Scores
The equipment calculates a numerical fit factor, with a minimum score of 100 generally required for a half-mask and 500 for a full-facepiece respirator.
